You’re going to set up this drill with 2 cones and a defensive player in the middle. Space the cones so that the defender has to take a step or two to touch the cone. Then you’re going to have on offensive player across from him (this is on the 3pt line). The offensive player goes once the defender touches either cone and they have to drive all the way to the basket to try and score. If you’re doing this drill with a partner just switch however you’d like, if you have a full team you could have the offensive player stay if they score and the extra players rotate in on defense. If and when someone gets a stop on defense have them rotate to offense. Do this drill at each wing and the top of the key to get different looks
What this drill works on: For the offensive player they are going to figure out how to attack advantages from different angles and different spots (baseline, blocks, middle of the paint) , like if the defender touches the right cone they are more than likely going to be forced to attack left and vice versa. Now on the defensive side of the ball it works on recovering from missteps, or recovering from an offensive player getting ahead. Make sure the player on defense isn’t just riding the hip of the offense and is trying to get to a spot ahead of the offensive player.
