In order to really get better on defense you have to watch games and pay attention to what gets players beat and how great defenders are able to stay locked onto their guys. 1. Watch full games, really pay attention to players footwork and what works on defense and what doesn’t. 2. Watch specific players, if you’re a quicker guard watch guys like T.J McConnell, Marcus Smart, and Jrue Holiday if you’re a slower player watch Kyle Anderson (heavily underrated defender) or Derrick White, they aren’t the fastest guys or most athletic by any means but they still manage to be elite defenders, if you’re a taller and bigger player watch Rudy Gobert, Ivica Zubac and Evan Mobley, pay attention to how they hold their ground in the paint and don’t jump at pump fakes. Then finally no matter what position you play two guys to watch for defense are Lu Dort and Jaden McDaniels, who are both prime examples of physical defenders who beat offensive guys to the spot. 3. Finally pay attention to on and off ball positioning, know where to be when the ball is opposite corner or closest wing and how far is too far off of a good shooter.
