Playing off ball defense is just as important as on ball and you need to be paying attention to a few things to make sure you’re a good off ball defender. The first thing you need to make sure of is your positioning, you should be able to see man and the ball and be in the right spot in regards to where the ball is on the floor to help. You should also never turn away from your player because a smart player will simply just back cut behind you especially on cuts to the middle off of a baseline drive. Finally don’t let players make easy cuts in front of you give them a little bump but nothing worth a foul. Always pay attention and go 100 percent on defense whether you’re guarding the ball or not because getting lost and allowing a couple back cuts or buckets where you missed your help can be the difference in a win or loss.
