The place for all things basketball

Being able to guard a screen whether you’re a guard or a big is super important because screens are the most used action in the game. Let’s start with if you’re a guard being screened, you can’t let the offensive player get comfortable you ned to get as close as possible so that the screen is harder to set. Next you’re going to want to funnel him into the screen so that the offensive player can’t beat you rejecting the screen, always be mindful of the fact that the offensive player doesn’t have to use the screen. Finally you want to step over the screeners top foot once you get to actually being screened so that it becomes useless. Next is being the behind player on the screen, you have to call out the screen and what side its on. If the player using the screen is a good shooter you’re not going to drop back and if you’re a bigger and slower player you don’t want to switch onto a guard so what can you do? Well you can hedge the screen quickly and then drop back and even if the pass gets thrown into the roller you should have help from the corner to tip that ball out. No matter what you and your teammate choose to do off the screen you have to be decisive and communicate what you’re doing because hesitation leads to wide open threes or layups to the roller.
